Dog Classes & Workshops

The Marin Humane Society offers reasonably priced, enjoyable dog training classes and workshops that will help your dog become the companion you want.

Our instructors use positive reinforcement to help solve your dog's behavior problems and teach him or her to walk on a leash without pulling, to sit or lie down quietly, to come when called and to wait at doors.

In addition, we offer information on nutrition, grooming, nails, fleas and ticks, and specific behavior concerns.

Introduction to Scenting

This class will give your dog an opportunity to work at something he "nose" how to do naturally, as well as help to build his confidence and his relationship with you. This is the first class in a series of four, any of which may be repeated until your dog meets the graduation criteria.
Using your dog's curiosity, desire to hunt, and his love of toys, food and exercise, you'll teach him to hunt for a specific scent in a variety of increasingly complex environments. This class is suitable for all dogs; FD1 is *not* a requirement, but your dog should be comfortable in a crate, as all dogs must be confined when not working. We are able to accommodate dogs who are not social with other dogs provided they are crate trained. Classes are 1 hour. $150 for six-week series.

Workshop: Crate Training

These 1 ½ hour workshops teach you how to crate train your puppy or adult dog. Crates help your dog establish good habits and prevent the formation of destructive habits. They are an excellent house training tool and can be used in many behavior modification programs. Crate training is a “must” for both perfect and problem dogs. Even our advanced obedience, agility, scenting, and several other classes require that dogs be able to be crated for short periods of times. Come learn all about crates with us! This workshop is limited to 10 dog/handler teams and 15 auditors. Pre-registration and payment of the fee - $20.00 to participate or $10.00 to audit - are required to reserve a spot in this workshop.
If you are an auditor (attending without your dog), please enroll via telephone at 415/506-6280.
